WHY WON'T MY BMW START?
A BMW that won't start is usually one of a handful of things — and in the Las Vegas heat, it's often the battery. Here's what we check first, and why an accurate diagnosis matters before anything gets replaced.
Common Causes
Weak or Dead Battery
Extreme summer heat is hard on batteries, and it's the single most common reason a BMW won't crank in Las Vegas. We test and charge before ever recommending a replacement.
Starter or Alternator Fault
A clicking noise or a car that cranks slowly (or not at all) can point to the starter motor or a failing alternator not keeping the battery charged.
Key Fob or Security System
BMW's immobilizer and keyless systems can prevent a start entirely if the key battery is low or the system doesn't recognize the key.
Fuel Delivery
A failing fuel pump or clogged fuel filter can leave the engine cranking but never catching — different symptoms than an electrical no-start.
Corroded or Loose Connections
Battery terminals and grounding points corrode over time, especially with age, and can cause an intermittent no-start that's easy to misdiagnose.
Ignition Switch Faults
On some models, a worn ignition switch can fail intermittently, mimicking a battery or starter problem.
